¡Viva España!

Hi friends!
I'm back again, and this time, I've got some exciting news. Katie in Kensington is becoming an even less appropriate name, because I just got accepted to go teach English in Spain for a year. I'll be somewhere in Andalucía from the end of August to the end of May. To make matters even more fantastic, my friend and roommate Katie is coming too--we've applied through the same program and will hopefully be placed in the same city. I'll be so thankful for a friendly face to live with, a friend to enjoy the beauty with, and someone to keep me sane.

I bet I can guess your first question: do I speak Spanish? I do, but certainly not well enough. I've taken Spanish in high school and in college, and it's time I'm forced to use it on a daily basis; there's only so far hearing a Spanish speaker on a tape can take you. I need to be one of the Spanish speakers! So I'm ready to embrace the challenges of living on my own--in the real world--in a foreign country. Everything will be more difficult: communication, finding a place to live, opening a bank account...the list goes on. But I think it will all be worth it, and I can't wait to see how much I learn.

And all of that's not to mention the opportunity to teach. I'm not sure what age--it could be anywhere from young elementary school-aged kids to adults. Tune in around early May to find my placement and school. For now, I'll try to keep updating and learning about Spain as I finish my last few months of college.
